The “Back to School” Tumblr Meetup last night was amazing! Ipanema was the perfect venue- Tumblr users socialized at the bar, got cozy in booths, and relaxed on the patio. Chef Will completely blew our minds with the menu: All of our childhood favorites, gone vegetarian! Treats were served on plastic cafeteria-style trays, in case you thought they didn’t go all out with the theme. Even the bar got into it! Gabe created some specialty drinks for the occasion that ran out due to popularity before the night ended.

Tumblr users ranged from just-moved-into-the-dorms-Freshmen to Richmond veterans with equally varying blog subjects, and it was awesome meeting you! Please tag your photobooth photos with #rvameetup so we can find them!

To answer a few FAQs: This event is all-ages, though we will be carding at the door and drink tickets will only be given to 21+. All curfew and other laws apply. Also, this event is not just for students! We’re celebrating blogging & nerdery, Ipanema’s brand new look, the return of cooler weather, and education/an excuse to buy a trapper keeper. The third Richmond, Virginia Tumblr meetup will be held on Wednesday, December 16th at The Belvidere at Broad at 6 p.m.

In addition to being a great restaurant and bar, The Belvidere is also on Tumblr. The owners, David and Julie Hassen, have graciously offered to let us gather there. And, there will be free Tumblr stickers and pins for all!

Eleven people attended the first Tumblr meetup tonight in Richmond, Virginia. That’s quite respectable for a city of our size just getting into meetups. (We did cheat a bit by having two people come from Williamsburg and one from Newport News.)

Sadly, it was too dark at Commercial Taphouse to take any decent photos. But, rest assured dear readers that much beer was consumed and a good time was had by all.
